The sale was half of a large assortment of his personal gadgets, auctioned by his longtime good friend and former lover, Mary Austin, who inherited the majority of his property.

Fans have been ecstatic as they took to the feedback. “Were *you* the anonymous winner of Freddie’s Yamaha at auction?” One wrote.

“Omg, is this Freddie’s piano, you saved?” another added. A 3rd chimed in: “Can only mean one thing:
Freddie’s grand piano ‘stays in the family.’ Well done, sir! And thank you.”

A fourth penned: “This is Freddie’s piano, right? I can’t wait to hear what you want to tell me and all of us, dear Bri! I can’t wait! I want to be tomorrow already!”

However, it appeared these fans could have jumped the gun as the piano bought at public sale was a Yamaha and not a Steinway as featured in the image.

It seems that the instrument in the photograph could also be a touring piano used by Freddie. From late 1977 onwards, his major touring acoustic piano was a 1972 Steinway D live performance grand.

While Brian has yet to reveal the news, some of his followers appeared to have presumably bought nearer to the reality. “Well, that room is the basement at Steinway and Sons, London. Say hello to George,” one noticed.

Meanwhile, a sixth provided: “Queen’s touring piano! Of course, Freddie’s piano, even though it is YOU who’s playing the intro to Save Me in the audio. I thought that piano was in your home (at least I saw it in one interview). Hopefully, it’s getting some loving care; it’s a gorgeous instrument. Looking forward to reading the whole story.
