Compelling Netflix thriller series still has | TV Shows

Critically acclaimed psychological thriller series, The OA, continues to have ardent followers determined for a new season despite it is cancellation more than 5 years in the past.

The show, dubbed “captivating” by the same viewers and still on Netflix, revolves around Prairie Johnson (portrayed by Brit Marling), a girl from Michigan who mysteriously reappears seven years after her unexplained disappearance.

Upon her return, Prairie’s mother and father are shocked to discover that she will be able to now see, despite being blind prior to her disappearance. Additionally, unsettling scars on her back trace at an unimaginably weird ordeal she went through.

Referring to herself as “the OA”, Prairie stays tight-lipped about her experiences, refusing to share any particulars with the authorities. Her peculiar conduct raises considerations about her mental health among her mother and father.

Prairie ultimately opens up to a group of high college college students and their trainer, sharing some of her experiences and making an extraordinary request – she asks them to help deliver back other lacking people by crossing into another dimension.

The series, created and executive-produced by Zal Batmanglij and Marling, has amassed a devoted fanbase due to its intriguing plot twists.

However, Netflix determined to cancel the series after its second season (launched in 2019), leaving the storyline hanging on a vital cliffhanger. The causes behind the cancellation stay unclear.

Cindy Holland, Netflix’s head of unique content, expressed delight in the series, stating, “We are incredibly proud of the 16 mesmerising chapters of The OA. We look forward to working with them again in the future, in this and perhaps many other dimensions.”

Viewers flocked to IMDb to heap reward on the show, with one declaring it “should not have been cancelled!! The music, suspense, drama, mystery, and horror of this show was enough to make me so invested in it and care for every character (except the bad ones who are in it for their own gain). Emotional and extremely compelling, especially the first season. Brit Marling shined wonderfully.”

Another pleaded with Netflix to commission a third season, writing, “Great show. Very good storyline and acting. Unfortunately Netflix canceled this series without a proper ending. Frustrating! Why. I wonder. Why cancel a series with such good ratings.”

A 3rd described it as a “mesmerizing watch”, saying, “Absolutely beautiful story telling, music and cinematography. I cannot tell you how many times I stayed up at night thinking about the meaning of the themes that are in this series.

“It’s enchantingly emotional and I’ve never seen something prefer it before. A visit for the senses and the soul.”

A fourth hailed The OA as a “delightfully odd TV series — a show that is constructed for binge-watching”.

The show accommodates some upsetting content, including scenes depicting drowning and near-death experiences, and addresses themes of suicide and self-harm, so viewer discretion is suggested.
