Donald Trump announces $2,000 for middle and lower | Political News
U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters on Monday that tens of millions of Americans will obtain a practically $2,000 examine, funded by tariffs.
“We’re going to issue a dividend to our middle-income people and our lower-income people, about $2000, and we’re going to use the remaining tariffs to lower our debt, we’re going to be lowering our debt, which is a national security thing,” Trump announced during a Q&A in the Oval Office.
Trump added that without tariffs, the U.S. could be “in such trouble.” Adding that the U.S. was in bother for many years, claiming that is why the nation is $38 trillion in debt.
He also claimed that there have been inaccurate stories about the quantity of investments the U.S. has acquired in investments from the tariffs.
“The numbers were reported so incorrectly, the real numbers are trillions of dollars have been taken in or gotten in terms of investment, from the tariffs. And so if that were ever reversed, that would be a disaster, frankly, it would be a national security problem for our country,” he said.
Congressional approval would possible be required for a plan of this nature to take impact.
Trump had beforehand announced that he could be issuing tariff dividends in a Sunday Truth Social Post.
In the post, Trump claimed that the U.S. is now the “Richest, Most Respected Country In the World, With Almost No Inflation, and A Record Stock Market Price. 401k’s are Highest EVER.”
“We are taking in Trillions of Dollars and will soon begin paying down our ENORMOUS DEBT, $37 Trillion. Record Investment in the USA, plants and factories going up all over the place. A dividend of at least $2000 a person (not including high income people!) will be paid to everyone,” he wrote.
The post also made it a level to call people against tariffs “FOOLS!”
Trump also thought of the thought of giving Americans checks value someplace between $1,000 and $2,000, in an interview on One America News Network last month.
“We’re going to do something, we’re looking at something. Number one, we’re paying down debt. Because people have allowed the debt to go crazy,” Trump said at the time. “We’ll pay back debt, but we also might make a distribution to the people, almost like a dividend to the people of America.”
U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent on Sunday told Fox News that the dividend “could come in lots of forms, in lots of ways.”
He added, “You know, it could be just the tax decreases that we are seeing on the president’s agenda — you know, no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, no tax on Social Security, deductibility of auto loans.”
