Grey’s Anatomy has made a thrilling return with its twenty second season, leaving followers on tenterhooks as they awaited the decision of last season’s dramatic cliffhanger.

The fuel explosion that marked the end of season 21 put a number of characters in peril, and tragically, one didn’t survive.

The finale of Grey’s Anatomy season 21 left six characters hanging in the stability, including authentic forged members Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) and Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson).

The blast also put Atticus ‘Link’ Lincoln (Chris Carmack), Lucas Adams (Niko Terho), Jules Millin (Adelaide Kane) and Monica Beltran (Natalie Morales) in jeopardy.

The season 22 premiere of Grey’s Anatomy concluded with the heartbreaking death of Monica Beltran (Natalie Morales), who succumbed to her accidents from the explosion.

Initially, it appeared she only had a shattered pelvis, which made her passing even more devastating, stories The Mirror.

The pediatric surgeon was mentoring second-year resident Dr. Jules Millin (Adelaide Kane) through a difficult solo process on a little one.

However, she was pinned under working mild tools, stopping her from performing the surgical procedure, and by the time the fire crew arrived, it was too late to save her.

Jules Milin accomplished the surgical procedure under Monica’s steerage before the surgeon tragically died from her accidents.

Fans had been left devastated by the death of Monica, expressing their sorrow on X (Twitter).

“SHE DESERVED SO MUCH BETTER,” one fan vented, while another posted: “Do not expect me to ever get over this.

“I’ve so a lot to say about this but I worry I can not stop crying,” another shared, and yet another commented: “Monica gone…oh I can not do this.”

Natalie Morales made her debut on Grey’s Anatomy as a guest star for six episodes in season 20.

Her character, Dr. Monica Beltran, gained more prominence in season 21 when she officially became a recurring cast member.

Monica was a pediatric surgeon who prioritized being an excellent doctor over making friends with her colleagues at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.

However, she quickly won over fans, making her untimely death all the more heartbreaking.

Grey’s Anatomy showrunner Meg Marinis confessed to The Hollywood Reporter that they “did not need to kill anybody” at the start of season 2 but ultimately decided that they “could not save everyone”.

She continued: “I needed to see somebody die selflessly saving another person’s life, and she was not only saving that little child on the desk, she was saving Jules.

“It really speaks to the kind of character Monica was. It was very difficult. It was very painful. I cried on that phone call. I love working with Natalie Morales.”

Fans of Grey’s Anatomy in the US can tune in to the show on Thursdays at 10/9c on ABC, with streaming out there on Hulu the next day.

The season consists of a whole of 18 episodes, which will probably be aired weekly.
