‘Lavish’ western miniseries branded ‘ideal weekend | UK News

Anyone who loves a good western is lacking out if they haven’t watched one “lavish” miniseries produced by Steven Spielberg. The six-episode release, starring Matthew Settle, Josh Brolin and Will Patton, follows the story of two households in the American enlargement, starting in the 1820s and spanning until 1890.

A mix of real life occasions and fictional characters, it follows the Wheeler household, who head for the western frontier after growing bored of a life in Virginia. The show also tells the story of a Native American household who are pressured to deal with the western enlargement as their own land disappears. From bear assaults to cholera outbreaks, the real looking collection offers with the best and worst the frontier had to offer.

Titled Into the West, the show was launched in 2005 – but followers are still hailing it a “masterpiece” even now.

One IMDb reviewer called it “an amazing story that anyone who calls themselves an American should see”, writing: “The cast is absolutely spectacular […] The joys and tragedies that these two families endure keep you glued to the screen every second.”

Someone else echoed: “An amazing cast, brilliant writing and thrilling cinematography take us back to that time when two great nations clashed, and whose fate would shape the destiny of America for all eternity.”

Another reviewer said it was the “best miniseries I have ever seen”, with another posting: “Spielberg did a pretty darn good job in capturing how the West was shaped and more specifically the people who risked their lives in shaping it.

“Into the West is, in my opinion, some of Steve Spielberg’s finest work.Watching the series itself stirred up mixed emotions – joy, sadness, anger and so forth.”
