U.S. President Donald Trump has condemned Israel’s bombing marketing campaign focusing on Hamas headquarters in Qatar while reaffirming his dedication to eliminating the militant group in Gaza.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt declared Tuesday during a press briefing that the president views Israel’s Tuesday strike, which eradicated 5 lower-ranking Hamas operatives, including the son of Hamas‘ chief negotiator Khalil al-Hayya, among others, as an “unfortunate incident” that does “not advance” regional peace efforts.

“Unilaterally bombing inside Qatar, a sovereign nation and close ally of the United States that is working very hard and bravely taking risks with us to broker peace, does not advance Israel or America’s goals,” Leavitt acknowledged. “However, eliminating Hamas, who have profited off the distress of those residing in Gaza, is a worthy objective.”

The White House also verified that the U.S. did obtain advance notification about Israel’s strategy, and Leavitt maintains that U.S. diplomatic envoy Steve Witkoff warned Qataris about the strike. Nevertheless, Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari reported that the call arrived too late, as explosives had already detonated in Doha.
