UFC legend provides insight on Conor | MMA News
Conor McGregor‘s return has been put on maintain after he was hit with an 18-month suspension, and a UFC legend has offered some insight on the ruling.
Even with the nice news surrounding his title, the Irishman is never too distant from controversy. Many followers rejoiced when ‘The Notorious’ dropped his political marketing campaign and instead devoted himself to a return to the octagon, but a violation of the anti-doping coverage has left him unable to compete for a number of months.
Reports counsel Conor McGregor failed to cooperate with Combat Sports Anti-Doping (CSAD) about his whereabouts on three events in 2024: June 13, September 19, and September 20.
From March 2026 onwards, McGregor will again be allowed to step into the octagon and compete.
Knowledgeable on how the method works, Chael Sonnen weighed in on why McGregor is going through the punishment he is been handed and speculates on what might have brought about the failed whereabouts checks.
“McGregor missed three attempted biological sample collections, [which] means Conor missed three drug tests, within a 12-month period in 2024, which constitutes a violation of the UFC anti-doping policy,” Sonnen recited as the McGregor news was made public.
“UFC athletes are required to provide accurate whereabouts information at all times, so they can be contacted and submit to biological sample collections without prior warning. Drug tests.”
Sonnen continued.
“So, just so you understand what a whereabouts violation is: You have to, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, there are no exceptions. When you’re in the pool, you have to let them know where you will be.”
“And that can be a colossally difficult thing to do for anybody, but particularly, Conor McGregor… Conor has a very abnormal life.”
“Just to give you an example, Conor’s scheduled to be in LA. LA gets changed, and Conor’s instead got to be in Seattle. It is Conor’s job to update that.”
“Now, let’s just say in that couple of hours flight that they show up in LA, where he said that he would be. Let’s say that he just hasn’t got around to [updating] it. Let’s give him every benefit of the doubt. And then he updates that he’s in Seattle.”
“If they, in fact, walked to the hotel door that he said he would be in, knock, and he’s not there, that is a violation.”

While human error can come into play and a lack of communication can lead to a violation, Chael Sonnen believes the doping businesses are very not often to blame in these conditions.
Sonnen recounted his experiences, insisting that a member of the family or those close to you’ll be contacted to know of your location before handing out any whereabouts violations.
“They want to be very respectful, which is why they allow you a miss. As a matter of fact, they even allow you a couple of misses. As a matter of fact, within a 12-month period, they’ll even give you three.”
“But, from my experience, they’re very good with communication. They’re very, very good at getting a hold of you. They will call you, they will text you. If they have the phone number of your wife, they will contact her. If they have the address of your gym, they will drive down there even though that’s not where the sample was supposed to be taken.”
“There’s a number of things that they will do to be incredibly reasonable.”
