UFC Rio loses heavyweight bout hours before | MMA News
Hours before the fighters competing on Saturday’s UFC Rio event are scheduled to formally weigh-in, the combat card misplaced one of its bouts.
A heavyweight conflict between the brothers of former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman and mild heavyweight contender Johnny Walker, Mohammed Usman and Valter Walker, was instantly cancelled after Usman withdrew for undisclosed causes.
Usman (11-4) received The Ultimate Fighter 30 Heavyweight Tournament in 2022. He snapped a two-fight shedding streak in his last outing in June, defeating Hamdy Abdelwahab via unanimous resolution. Usman’s gone 4-2 in his octagon appearances.
Walker (14-1) suffered his first profession loss in his octagon debut in April 2024. Since the loss, Walker has strung together three consecutive wins, all by submission. It’s unclear whether or not Walker will stay on the combat card against a alternative or be rebooked for a later event.
UFC Rio takes place at Farmasi Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Saturday. The event is headlined by a light-weight but between former champion Charles Oliveira and No. 8 ranked Mateusz Gamrot. This event will mark the combat promotion’s thirteenth go to to Rio de Janeiro.
