Wyndham Clark wants to move on from locker | Golf

PGA Tour golfer Wyndham Clark has finally spoken out about the controversial locker room incident following his powerful spherical at the U.S. Open.

After failing to make the cut at Oakmont, Clark discovered himself amid controversy for an “act of vandalism” as photographs exhibiting harm in the clubhouse lockers went viral on social media, prompting calls for disciplinary motion against him. This follows one other intense second where he hurled his driver and harmed indicators during the PGA Championship; despite apologizing, it highlighted a troubling sample about his current mindset at tournaments.

Addressing the matter at Oakmont during a press convention at the Travelers Championship, the 2023 U.S. Open victor mirrored on the incidence after taking time to suppose it over.

“You know, I’ve had a lot of highs and lows in my career, especially this year, some lows,” he admitted. “And, you know, I made a mistake that I deeply regret, and I’m very sorry for what happened. But I’d also like to move on, not only for myself, but for Oakmont, for the USGA, and kind of focus on the rest of this year and things that come up.”

Looking to put the episode behind him, Clark expressed his need to obtain future ambitions, particularly setting his sights on making the Ryder Cup group and bettering his standing in the FedEx Cup. “I still want to try to make the Ryder Cup team. I still am on the outside looking in for the FedEx Cup, and I, you know, so I’m starting to move on and focus on those things.”

At one stage Graeme McDowell weighed in to back Clark posting on X saying “This is minimal regards what I’ve seen other players do. Players you would never expect. Oakmont will test any players mental fortitude. Seen it in person. Guess who? 2016.”

Clark’s current annoyed outburst at Oakmont comes on the heels of a number of subpar performances. The 31 yr previous failed to make the cut, his fourth in his final seven begins.

The Oakmont incident adopted comparable shows of anger from Clark at the PGA Championship. He was seen to throw his driver and harm signage during his remaining spherical at Quail Hollow and after an errant tee shot on the sixteenth gap, flung his golf membership in frustration, narrowly avoiding a close by volunteer.

Later on social media he issued an apology for the incident at Quail Hollow. “I would like to sincerely apologize for my behavior yesterday on Hole 16. As professionals, we are expected to remain professional even when frustrated and I unfortunately let me emotions get the best of me,” the assertion learn.

“My actions were uncalled for and completely inappropriate, making it clear that I have things I need to work on. I hold myself to a high standard, trying to always play for something bigger than myself, and yesterday I fell short of those standards.

“For that I’m really sorry. I promise to higher the best way I deal with my frustrations on the course going ahead, and hope you all can forgive me in due time.”
