Netanyahu updates phase 2 of Gaza ceasefire, says | Political News
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asserted Israel’s security stance in an interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier on Tuesday, after talks with President Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago.
When questioned about the second phase of the ceasefire in Gaza, Netanyahu said, “One word, disarmament.” He claimed that Hamas still possesses 60,000 Kalashnikov rifles and maintains lots of of kilometers of terror tunnels. “You’ve got to take all these rifles, take them away from them,” he said, noting Hamas’ refusal to disarm is the main impediment to progress.
He was cautiously optimistic about the disarmament stating: “I think we have to give it a chance,” noting the chance of an worldwide stabilization power. “If it can be done the easy way, fine.”
Netanyahu rejected media hypothesis that he had to persuade Trump of his place. “We saw eye to eye. He cut right to the chase,” Netanyahu said. “He said, look, skip all this press stuff… you’ve got to get Hamas to disarm.”
The Israeli navy has been accused of navy actions during the ceasefire; however, Netanyahu posed it as a defensive motion: “These terrorists try to kill us… What would you do? Well, you just did. There was this jihadist in Syria who killed two Americans. Bam. You hit them back.”
Netanyahu also dismissed experiences of widespread violence by Jewish settlers. (*2*)
“I want peaceful coexistence between the Israelis and the Palestinians who live in Judea and Samaria, which is part of our ancestral homeland,” he added.

DON’T MISS…
“If they don’t disarm as they agreed to do, then there’ll be hell to pay for them,” Trump said. “And we don’t want that. We’re not looking for that.”
When questioned if Hamas does not disarm in the short amount of time given to them, what would be the next steps, Trump said: “It can be horrible for them. Horrible. Really, actually dangerous for them.”
Netanyahu said that a new government could be established in the Gaza Strip sometime next year, given that Hamas surrenders its weapons and is made to “vanish.”
“No one’s going to come in there if Hamas stays armed, and they’ll put a bullet right through the back of their head, you know, anyone of any potential new government,” Netanyahu told Fox News’ “Special Report” in a sitdown set to air Tuesday night.
