Russian President Vladimir Putin continues to signal that Russia is holding firm and not in shifting to end the struggle in Ukraine, according to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Furthermore, ISW experiences Russia just isn’t ready to make concessions outlined in the 28-point U.S. peace plan.
Analysts examined feedback by Putin at a Nov. 21 assembly of Russia’s Security Council, in which he confirmed receiving the U.S. peace proposal. He also claimed that Moscow agrees with the concepts mentioned at the Alaska summit.
During that summit, he echoed Kremlin views about the “root causes of the war,” security ensures for Ukraine from Russia or China, and that any peacekeeping missions in Ukraine have been unacceptable. ISW concluded that Russia’s calls for haven’t shifted.
Statements from Kremlin officers point out they haven’t budged on their longstanding place on Ukraine, it’s instructed.
ISW reported that Russian opposition outlet Verstka wrote that Moscow wouldn’t signal the current peace deal.
Russian officers have questioned the proposed security ensures for Ukraine, citing that the proposed discount in the scale of Ukraine’s Armed forces is insufficient, inadequate strategies for easing sanctions, and considerations concerning the use of Russia’s frozen property.
ISW argued that “the proposed peace plan would not bring Russia and Ukraine closer to a just and lasting peace but would set conditions for renewed Russian aggression against Ukraine in the future.”
The evaluation highlighted that Putin and his army commanders have continued to push the “false narrative” that Russia will win the struggle, to push Ukraine and Western allies into folding to Russian calls for.
Trump’s 28-point draft plan
The draft plan has already been deemed controversial by Ukrainian and American officers.
Parts of the plan call for Ukraine to cede territory, keep away from becoming a member of NATO, and restrict the scale of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to 600,000 personnel.
President Donald Trump told reporters on Saturday that his peace plan just isn’t his ultimate offer to Ukraine.
“No, not my final offer,” Trump said after a reporter questioned if it was his ultimate offer to Ukraine.
“I’d like to get the peace. It should’ve happened a long time ago. The Ukraine war with Russia should’ve never happened. If I were president, it would’ve never happened. We’re trying to get it ended,” Trump added. “One way or the other, we have to get it ended.”
Trump had announced on Friday that he was giving Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a deadline of Thursday, November 27, to signal the doc.
