The dispute over the alleged Will of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur intensified in the Delhi High Court on November 21, as Priya Kapur’s legal workforce confronted renewed scrutiny over errors, lacking procedures and unresolved contradictions.
For the second consecutive day, the bench pressed the defence on why the doc incorporates basic factual errors—such as misspelled names, fallacious genders, incorrect addresses, selective itemizing of beneficiaries, and notably, no stock of property. Priya’s counsel repeated earlier explanations but failed to present any new reasoning, supporting materials, or proof that Sunjay had ever seen, reviewed or authorised the Will.
The case follows Thursday’s listening to where senior advocate Rajiv Nayar had tried to defend the inaccuracies through the “template theory”—suggesting the Will borrowed sections from the Will of Sunjay’s mom, Rani Kapur. The court questioned why a billionaire would rely on his mom’s Will as a template and yet overlook elementary details about his own kids, property and even his gender.
Friday’s proceedings deepened the inconsistencies. The defence was unable to explain why Rani Kapur’s Will was notarised and procedurally sound, while Sunjay’s, involving considerably bigger property, was neither notarised nor registered. No emails, messages, notes or instructions from Sunjay referencing the doc have been produced. The digital path continues to point out that the file originated from a machine with no hyperlink to the late industrialist.
Another level of concern was the defence’s attempt to merge two unrelated issues: the kids’s bills under the divorce consent phrases and the claimed Rs 2,000 crore benefit from the RK Family Trust. While Priya’s aspect urged these as interchangeable, court data show that funds under the consent phrases had been obligatory obligations and now relaxation with the Estate. Despite the declare of huge trust advantages, not a single rupee has reportedly been transferred to the kids.
The court also revisited unresolved points raised on Thursday, including the delayed disclosure of the Will, makes an attempt to secure signatures before sharing it, and the persistence of factual discrepancies. Priya’s counsel was unable to present passable solutions on any of these factors.
Across two days of hearings, the sample highlighted by the bench has remained constant: the defence has not clarified the doc’s errors, cannot set up Sunjay Kapur’s involvement, and continues to conflate routine funds with trust property.
